OTW runs on cooperation, not chaos. These rules keep the server fair and drama-free for everyone. Joining the server means you agree to follow them — ignorance isn't a defence.
The Golden Rule — This Is a Strict PvE Server
There are no PvP zones, and killing another player is never allowed for any reason. AI enemies are marked with a large red X above their heads — if it doesn't have the X, it's a player. Everything below builds on this.
[ 01 ] Conduct
Be Respectful
1.1
No hate or harassment
Hate speech, harassment, bullying, baiting, and repeated unwanted interaction toward other players are not allowed — in-game or in Discord.
1.2
No griefing
That includes shooting at players, injecting meds into someone without their consent, and blocking another player's movement.
1.3
Respect the spirit of the server
Any behaviour OTW staff determine violates the spirit of the server counts as breaking this rule, even if it isn't spelled out below.
[ 02 ] Combat
PvE Only
2.1
Never kill other players
OTW is a strict PvE server. There are no PvP zones, and killing another player is not allowed under any circumstances.
2.2
Know your target
AI enemies are clearly marked with a large red X above their heads. No X means it's a real player — hold your fire.
[ 03 ] Property
No Theft
3.1
Don't take what isn't yours
Do not loot another player's body, body bag, base, containers, or vehicles without their explicit permission.
3.2
Unattended still means off-limits
This applies even if the flagpole is down or an item is close to despawning. Leaving it out doesn't make it yours to take.
[ 04 ] Quests
No Spoilers
4.1
Let people discover it themselves
Many OTW traders, locations, mechanics, and rewards are locked behind quests and storylines. Don't share spoilers in public spaces like Discord, global chat, or voice chat.
[ 05 ] Identity
No Impersonating Staff
5.1
Don't pretend to be staff
Falsely impersonating an OTW admin or staff member, in-game or outside the game, is strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary action.
[ 06 ] Server Restarts
Restart Safety
6.1
Don't take risks near a restart
Avoid risky actions as a restart approaches — combat, driving vehicles, base interactions, or sitting somewhere unsafe. Losses or deaths near a restart are your responsibility and won't be compensated.
6.2
Body bags can fail to spawn
Dying too close to a restart may prevent a body bag from spawning, so play it safe when one is coming up.
Critical restart rule: Any interaction with vehicles, items, money, storage, bases, or inventory within 10 minutes before or 10 minutes after any restart — scheduled or unscheduled — is done entirely at your own risk. Nothing lost in that window is compensated, and logging in after a restart does not mean the server, mods, or economy are fully synced.
[ 07 ] Fair Play
No Exploits or Abuse
7.1
No exploiting
Exploiting glitches, bugs, loot cycling, or bending gameplay in ways that break the intended OTW experience is not allowed.
7.2
No storage nesting abuse
This includes using large military crates to nest or stack storage beyond intended limits. Items stored this way may be removed without warning, with no compensation for any losses.
Outside The Wire exists to deliver a challenging, immersive, and respectful PvE experience. If you're unsure about something, ask. If something feels wrong, open a ticket. We appreciate every player who helps keep OTW strong and enjoyable for everyone.
